Paul F. Rice, of Newtown section of Hanover Township, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022.
Born in Hanover Township, he was the son of the late Paul J. and Regina Gable Rice and was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1950. He served his country proudly, in combat, in the United States Marines in Korea. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with two stars; National Defense Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. Paul worked for Bell Telephone as a telecommunications technician, prior to retirement; was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers and the American Legion in Ashley.
Paul was an active member of St. Leo the Great Parish Church, Ashley; was a charter member of St Leo the Great Council 12089, Knights of Columbus and attained the fourth degree as a member of the Bishop Hafey Assembly. He would be seen every year at St. Leo's Church Festival and the Night at the Races, assisting wherever needed. He was an avid Notre Dame Fan, rarely missing a game and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball and Philadelphia Flyers Hockey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Morris Rice; daughter Lisa and her husband, Dr. John Miller of Hanover Township; grandsons, John Miller and his wife, Nichelle and Eric Miller, all of Phoenix, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 4 to 7 pm at the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:00 am in St. Leo the Great Church, 33 Manhattan St. Ashley, with Reverend Vincent Dang officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Those attending the Mass are asking to go directly to the church.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Paul's memory.
