Born in Wilkes-Barre on September 20, 1942, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Kulekoski) Salerno. Mike was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps for six years. Following his military service, Mike built a long and respected career as a freight conductor, dedicating over 36 years of hard work to his profession. He was known for his strong work ethic and the respect he earned from his colleagues.
Mike found great joy in the outdoors and could often be found enjoying activities such as horseshoes, fishing, and camping. He and his beloved wife shared a love for bringing people together, hosting countless family gatherings, holidays, and cookouts that created lasting memories for all who attended.
A deeply involved member of the White Haven community, Mike was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce for his dedicated service. He played a vital role in organizing Toys for Tots in White Haven, frequently volunteered at St. Patrick’s Church, and was actively involved in coordinating Marine Corps events. His commitment to both his community and fellow veterans was unwavering.
Mike was a proud member of the Marine Corps League Detachment 1039, the VFW of White Haven, the NRA, St. Patrick’s Church, and the American Legion of Ashley. Above all, Mike was a devoted husband, father, and family man who will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and the love he shared with those closest to him.
