Mark Fenner, 65, of Wilkes-Barre, received his call from our Lord to join him on July 4, 2022. After a courageous uphill battle and “no come from behind win” in sight for Mark, he accepted his call.
Born on September 18, 1956, he was the son of the late Russell and Nicoline Altavilla Fenner and was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1976. Mark was an avid fisherman and sports fanatic. He played softball, darts, cards and belonged to bowling leagues throughout the community. He enjoyed following local athletes in their scholastic, collegiate and professional careers; especially Jimmy Cefalo's career at Penn State and Miami in the eighties. His favorite teams were Penn State, New York Mets and Miami Dolphins; but he followed all his family and friends teams as well. His greatest memories include the 1969 AMAZIN METS WORLD SERIES CHAMPS and the 1972 SUPER BOWL CHAMPS MIAMI DOLPHINS. Asking Mark who he liked on game day gave gamblers in his circle some thoughts to ponder.
Mark was a gentle giant and could bring harm to no one. His kind heart and smile made it easy for him to carry on a conversation with everyone he met. He, also, was known as being the Mayor of Cumminskey Street. Mark was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church on Park Avenue until its closing.
He will be sadly missed by his brother, David and sister-in-law, Bonnie, who cared for Mark greatly. Although his passing may have broken some hearts on Independence Day our Lord and his parents gained a Saint. When our call finally comes to rejoin Mark, he'll be waiting to greet you with a smile and probably be able to tell you the final score before the game starts; because he may have started last but finished first.
A Mass of Intention will be held at Our Lady of Hope Church on Park Avenue on Sunday, August 28 at 10:30 AM
