Manuel “Manny” S. Martinez, 96, of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday evening, April 19, 2019, in the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Emmanuel and Pauline Sausada Martinez and attended GAR High School and received his GED while in the armed forces. He served his country proudly, for 24 years, in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served in the Dominican Republic and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal for Korea, Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. Manny was a line supplier for Dana Perfume, Mountain Top and a member of St. Patrick's Church, St. Andrew's Parish, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of the Catholic War Vets, Post #274, Ashley; the American Legion, Post #673, Ashley and DAV, Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Alfonso and David and sister, Alice.
He is survived by son, George Martinez; daughters, Maria Martinez and Susan Henderson, all of California; brother, Gilbert Martinez, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be conducted at 12:30 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township, with Military Honors.
