Lawrence J. “Larry” Sklaney, 79, of White Haven, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Newport Township, he was the son of Joseph and Helen Vinarski Sklaney, and Blanche Konieczny, stepmother. Larry was a graduate of Newport Township High School, Class of 1959. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, and his Master’s degree from Marywood University, Scranton. Larry was a social worker employed as a probation officer for SCI in Frackville and earlier at the Youth Forestry Camp at Hickory Run. He was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music and fishing. Larry was well known in the community in multiple dart leagues, where he earned many trophies.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Tyburski Sklaney; son, Lawrence Sklaney Jr and his wife, Mingjie of St. Paul, MN; daughter, Suzanne Sklaney of Bloomsburg, PA; four grandchildren, Anthony and Talia Sainclair and Benedict and Wyatt Sklaney; and sister, Laverne Gzemski and her husband, Casmir of Milltown, NJ; as well as many nieces and nephews. Larry was also recently proceeded by granddaughter, Larissa Sainclair.
Due to COVID, a celebration of life will be held at a later time and date to be announced.
