James "Jimmy" Prato Obituary

James F. “Jimmy” Prato, 66, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2026.

Born on June 16, 1960, Jimmy was the son of the late Joseph Francis Prato and Anne Battista Prato. He was a graduate of GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre. Early in his career, he managed Rocky Glen Park and worked for Mountain productions, Roth Novelty and the city of Wilkes Barre. Later, he found his passion as a Flight Attendant with JetBlue Airways.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Williams Prato; his son, James J. Prato and wife Brianna, William Evans and wife Kelly, and Ryan Evans and wife Briley; his daughters, Janelle Herbert, Candace Opachinski and husband Joe, and Tanya Black and husband Joe; and his many cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Angelina, Kiarah, Francesca, Adelyn, Avery, Carter, Thea, Taje, Averianna, Jurney, Mayvis, Connor, and Kaiden. He loved his nieces and nephews; Maria, Anthony, Paul, Michael, Corena, Gena, Domenico, and his special girl Frankie.

He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Prato and wife Rena; his sister, Debbie Pastore and husband Tim and Jeff Bartlo; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and many lifelong friends.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Fran Prato Bartlomowicz.

Jimmy was known for his larger-than-life personality and his love for people. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable way of making everyone around him smile. He loved watching sports, spending time with his family and friends, and was an avid dog lover. Anyone who knew Jimmy, knew when he arrived—and they certainly knew when he was leaving, often announcing with a smile that he’d “be back tomorrow.” His humor, warmth, and unforgettable presence made him the life of every party.

Jimmy was an active member of many clubs and American Legions throughout the Wyoming Valley, where he formed countless friendships over the years. His generosity, loyalty, and ability to make people laugh will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 4-6p.m. at the Lehman Family Funeral Home, 689 Hazle Street, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

Jimmy’s family wishes to thank everyone for their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Though he will be deeply missed, his laughter, stories, and the love he shared with those around him will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ashley American Legion Post 673.
