James Brooks Obituary

James B. Brooks, of White Haven, passed away at home surrounded by family on March 21, 2026.

Born in Columbus, Ohio on January 12, 1961, James was a man whose life was defined by service, leadership, and an unwavering dedication to those around him. He attended Mohonasen High School and later continued his education at Penn State University with also a brief stint serving double secret probation at Faber College.

James proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a nuclear submarine radio operator, a role that reflected both his discipline and intelligence. Following his military service, he began becoming a jack of all trades. From being a cook in various restaurants to working on multiple different horse ranches across the country. He eventually settled down in Pennsylvania where he became an independent contractor and purchased his own 18 wheeler. He loved sharing the experiences of the open road with his children, sometimes against the advice of his wife. He later was employed as a school bus driver for Crestwood School District, where he became a familiar and friendly face to many students and families.

He then began his commitment to helping others by becoming a Nationally Certified EMT. He eventually served as Captain of the White Haven Ambulance, and also worked with the Freeland and Weatherly Ambulance services. In these roles, James was more than a first responder, he was a leader who brought people together, fostering teamwork, unity, and a shared sense of purpose among his colleagues and family.

James had a strong personality, hard-headed at times, but always grounded in love and loyalty. His sense of humor was a constant presence in his home, bringing laughter and sarcasm to those closest to him. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, cooking, and traveling to the beach. A sports fan at heart, he rooted for the New York Giants and New York Mets, never wavering in his support despite a household of Eagles and Phillies fans.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne Shrosky Brooks; his children, Kathy Brooks and her husband Bryan of Saratoga Springs, NY, Robert Brooks of New York, and Michael Brooks of White Haven; his brother, Clint Brooks and his wife Donna; his sister, Lori Brooks and her husband Keith; and his cherished grandchildren, Johnathan Brooks and Adriana Bell-Scanlon. He is also survived by many dear friends, especially Bob Bradley, Eric Raust, and Don Spany.

A celebration of James’ life will be announced at a later date at the convenience of the family.

James will be remembered for his service, his leadership, his humor, and the lasting impact he made on his family, friends, and community.
