With her loving family surrounding her, Juana Gyza, a cherished resident of Wilkes-Barre, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Born in Taft, Eastern Samar, Philippines, Juana was a daughter of the late Eufemio and Liberata Cebuano. Her life journey took her to Japan, where she spent over three years working for diplomats. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Florian Gyza, who was serving in the United States Air Force. Their connection blossomed, leading to their marriage. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, evidenced by her former membership at St. Andrew's Parish and St. Patrick's Church in Wilkes-Barre, and her current devotion as a member of St. Faustina's Church in Nanticoke.
Juana was a proud and dedicated entrepreneur, well-known as the owner of Gyza's Deli and Bake Shoppe in Wilkes-Barre. For over five decades, she also passionately served as a Shaklee distributor. Her heart truly resided in the kitchen, where she lovingly prepared countless meals and warmly welcomed family and friends into her home for joyful gatherings filled with her delicious, homemade creations. Juana possessed a genuine passion for helping others, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her with her welcoming spirit and generous nature. Her love for flowers, plants and gardening brightened the neighborhood for all who passed by in their travels. Music, singing and dance brought her so much joy and a smile for all who had the pleasure of hearing her beautiful voice.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were all her beloved brothers and sisters....Maxima, Eutropia, Constantino, Vicenta, Martines, Leo, Canuto and Exequiel as well as two siblings who passed during infancy.
Juana's memory will be forever treasured by her loving husband, Reverend Mr. Florian John Gyza; her daughter, Joan Mary Kaminski, and her husband Ed of Mountain Top; her son, John Gyza of Florida; her three adored grandsons, Lenny (Amanda), Gabe, and Michael; and her two cherished great-grandchildren, Bryleigh and Bryce. She is also survived by numerous dear nieces and nephews. Juana and Florian would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on June 30th, a testament to their enduring love that began during her time in Japan.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Juana's life. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 9:30 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Andrew's Parish, 316 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, and again on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until the time of service.
