JOHN BUTLER, JR. Obituary

John Patrick Butler, Jr., 79, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John P. and Florence McNulty Butler. A graduate of St. Leo’s High School, Class of 1963, John honorably served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He spent his career as a dedicated store manager at Giant Markets on Hanover Street in Wilkes-Barre, and as a courier for Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

John, known as Pops to his family, found his greatest joy in spending time with loved ones, especially supporting his grandchildren in their activities. A devoted Notre Dame football fan, he treasured trips to South Bend, Indiana, to cheer on the Fighting Irish. He was a faithful member of St. Therese’s Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #11901, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Czestochowa Council, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. John Neumann Council.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Hannon, Katherine "Kay" Lewandoski, Maureen Richards, and Elizabeth Missal.

John is deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Alma Krystofolsky Butler; his sons John Patrick Butler and his wife Anne of Shavertown, Brian Patrick Butler and his wife GerryLynn of West Pittston, and Keith Patrick Butler of Dallas; and his sister, Jeanne Stull of Larksville. He was a beloved grandfather to John Patrick Butler IV (Kerrigan), Grace Butler (Derek), Faith Butler, Katelyn DeRoberto (Jacob), Kyler Higgins, Abigail Butler, Kymber Shutt (Matt), Delaney Butler, and Irelyn Butler; and a proud great-grandfather to Kinsley Shutt, Claire Shutt, Henry Shutt, Dawson Reese, and Mia DeRoberto. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Therese’s Church in Shavertown, with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s honor may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Stanley Lobitz and Nurse Carolyn Lore for their exceptional care and compassion.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc., Wilkes-Barre.
