JAMES T. MURPHY, JR.

James Thomas Murphy, Jr. 84, of Wilkes-Barre, died late Monday evening, June 11, 2018, at home, with family by his side.

Born, in Wilkes-Barre, September 11, 1933, he was the son of the late James T. and Ruth Peters Murphy and was a graduate of St. Leo’s High School, Class of 1952, Ashley and King College, Class of 1959, where he earned his Bachelors Degree.  He served his country proudly during the Korean War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  Jim was employed as a case worker supervisor for the Department of Welfare and enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a member of AOH, St. John Neuman Division and past president of St. Leo’s Alumni.  Jim was a lifetime member of St. Leo’s Church, Ashley, served on it’s Parish Board; participated as a Lector and was a member of its Holy Name Society, where he served as past secretary.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Claire Murphy.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo McAndrew Murphy; sons, Michael Murphy, Wilkes-Bare; Kevin Murphy and his partner, Gerald Pogzeba, Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Mary Ellen Murphy Jones and her husband, John; granddaughter, Michaela and granddaughter and Goddaughter, Erin; and sister, Dorothy Mayernick.

Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 9:00 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Leo/Holy Rosary Parish, 33 Manhattan St. Ashley.  Reverend Vincent Dang will officiate.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may visit on Friday, June 15, 2018, from 4 to 6 pm and Saturday morning from 8:30 am until time of service at the funeral home.
