Francis Daniel “Butch” Loughnane of the Newtown section of Hanover Township, died Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Mary Cummiskey Loughnane and was a graduate of GAR High School, Class of 1957, and very active in planning all of his class reunions. Butch was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers I.B.E.W. #163 of Hanover Township for 40 years. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for 15 years for Williams Bus Company, and was known to all his students as “Leo”. Butch was an avid Notre Dame Fan and enjoyed watching the games with his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandson Liam’s football and basketball games. He enjoyed camping, gardening and cruising with his wife. Butch was very outgoing and personable. It didn’t take long for Butch to get to know you and provide you with a nickname , and usually stayed with you for life!
Being a man of great faith, he was a member and usher of St. Leo/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley. He was also a life member and former Fire Chief of Newtown Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Paul Loughnane and Maria Cronauer and her husband Robert Cronauer.
Butch is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife Mary Lou Krzywicki Loughnane with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage on February 13; daughter, Kathleen Lockman (Bill) of Hanover Township; Shawn Loughnane of Las Vegas; Daniel Loughnane of Hanover Township; grandson, Liam Loughnane; Sister in law, Dolores Loughnane, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A private funeral service will be held from the Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre with interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at a time to be announced.
