EDGAR A. GOWER

Edgar A. “Doc” Gower Sr., White Haven, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at The Laurels Senior Living, Hazleton.

Born March 24, 1929 to the late John and Lucy Fulk Gower, he was a star baseball pitcher and graduate of White Haven High School. Doc threw a no-hitter for the League Champion Havenites in his Senior year. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Wilkes College and Masters from the University of Scranton. Doc served his country proudly in the US Army, in Europe, during the Korean Conflict. As the Math Department Chairman, he taught his entire career at MMI Prep, Freeland, and is an honored member of the MMI Wall of Fame. A man of great faith, he was an active member of St. Patrick's Church, White Haven. A die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan, Doc’s love of baseball continued throughout his life as a longtime coach for White Haven Little League and Babe Ruth, and for MMI Prep.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Louise in 2018, his brothers John “Beaver” and Harry “Pete,” and brother-in-law Kenny Meckes. He is survived by his sister Belva Meckes and his sister-in-law Rosalie Simko and her husband Paul.

Surviving are his children and grandchildren: Edgar Jr. and Joan Gower (Edgar III & Vanessa, Christine & Ryan, Elise, and John Xavier); Gregory and Jill Gower (Katie & Steven, and Sarah); Leslie and Richard Della Croce (Natalie & Michael, Leah & Fiance Steven, Kenneth & Fiance Ailyn and Richard) and Charles and Connie Gower (Elizabeth & John, Brendan, Ryan & Jennette, Patrick, Olivia, Claire, and Sophia). His beloved great-grandchildren are Rylie, Braden, Brynn, Abby, Alex, Teagan, Renn, Liam, and Owen, with two additional great-grandsons arriving this month. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be conducted Sunday, October 30th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Lehman Family Funeral Service, White Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 10:30 AM at St Patrick’s Church, White Haven; with visitation from 9:30 AM until time of Mass. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
