Donald W. VanAllen, of Pocono Lake, passed away on June 15, 2026, at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton. He was born on September 2, 1945, in Paterson, New Jersey, to the late Frances and Eleanor VanAllen.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and later continued his service in the National Guard, dedicating a total of 25 years to military service. He was the recipient of numerous honors, including the Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Rifle Marksman Badge.
Following his military service, Donald worked as a factory worker in the manufacturing industry. He was a member of the American Legion and remained proud of his service and camaraderie with fellow veterans.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Michael) Wanger of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Robin (Tilford) Griffin; his granddaughter, Rylee; and his daughter-in-law, Shelley VanAllen. He was predeceased by his son, Todd VanAllen, as well as his loving wife, Maria.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:30 am from Lehman Family Funeral Service, 403 Berwick Street, White Haven. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow with military honors at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Oak Ridge, New Jersey at 1:30 pm.
