Dennis J. Sheehan, of Ashley, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Charles Sheehan and Gertrude Sander Sheehan. Dennis was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Victoria Gilroy Sheehan; his nephew, Patrick Connelly; and Patrick's wife, Kelly.
Dennis dedicated 34 years of service to the New York City Police Department before his retirement. He took great pride in his career as a New York City police officer and in serving the people of his community. He was also a member of the New York Fire Department Lieutenants Benevolent Association.
A devoted fan of the University of Notre Dame, Dennis faithfully followed Fighting Irish athletics throughout his life. He also enjoyed collecting firearms and treasured the friendships he made through his many interests.
Surviving are his stepdaughter, Jacqueline Navarrow; his nieces and nephews, John Connelly and his wife, Donna, Mauri Tuzinski and her husband, Bernie, Michael Connelly and his wife, Beth Ann, and Kareen Connelly. He is also survived by dear friends, Barry Tomcho and his wife, Bonnie, and Sharon Pearson.
A Blessing Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in the Chapel at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Dennis will be remembered for his dedication to family, his loyalty to friends, his pride in public service, and his lifelong love of Notre Dame.
