Demetrius Scantzos, 85, of Clarks Summit, died at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, on Sunday, February 28, 2021.
Born in Delvinaki, Greece, he was the son of Vasilios and Kalliope Giohas Scantzos. He earned his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University. For the majority of his career he was a mechanical engineer at RCA in Dunmore, once earning Man of the Year award. Later, he started a second career in real estate, developing housing developments in areas including Clarks Summit and Scranton.
First and foremost, he loved serving his church and did so in many capacities, including parish council president. He especially loved spending time with family and friends, often photographing and videotaping the gatherings. He also loved skiing and introducing other people to the sport. In his spare time he wrote an autobiographical book for his progeny.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by four sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Koukoltsios Scantzos; daughter, Marian (Donald) Robitzer of Birdsboro; son, Lazaros (Antje) Scantzos of Wyomissing and grandchildren, Harrison, Demetrios, Alexander and Kathryn, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be limited to family members and will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 505 N. Washington Street, Scranton on Wednesday at 10:00 am with Father Konstantine Eleftherakis officiating
Interment will follow at Holy Protection Monastery, 1 Saint Josephs Way, White Haven.
