David J. Polons Sr., 68, of Ashley, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 20, 2025, with family by his side.
Born November 20, 1956, he was the son of the late Edward and Betty (Hess) Polons. David was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1974, and spent much of his career working in the heavy-duty construction industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Guardrail, signs and overhead, pipe fitting, tri-axle driver and truck boss, there wasn’t a road trip we went on that Dad didn’t have a story to tell about a part of the road he worked on. Equal parts hilarious, terrifying and sometimes death defying, his tales will be greatly missed.
If you really knew Dave, you know that work was actually a thing to keep him busy between hunting seasons. The first day of archery, rifle, turkey and when the ice was thick enough to fish were some of the greatest joys in his life. Dave was an excellent Poppy, spending time with Lettie and Luke, teaching them to hunt and fish. Seeing both his grandchildren get their first buck was one of his proudest moments. David also treasured the time spent with his beloved wife of 48 years, Molly, who preceded him in death.
A special thank you to his son Buddy and the nurses with Erwine home health who were his caretaker during his final months and kept him out of “Serenity Knoll”
David is survived by his daughter, Brooke Troxell and her husband Jason of Jackson Township; his son, David Polons Jr of Ashley and his cherished grandchildren, Lettie and Luke Troxell. He is also survived by his siblings: Ed Polons and his wife Sue, Randy Polons, and Kelly Yedlock and her husband Jim. Per David’s wishes, there will be no public services. In memory of Dave, his family requests that you crack open a Genny, pour a shot of Jaquin’s Blackberry Brandy and raise a toast to someone who will surely be missed.
