Carole Rowley, 72, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died on Thursday, March 24, 2022 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Born in Nanticoke, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Schultz Florek and was a graduate of Ashley High School. Carole was member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre. She enjoyed keeping the family traditions passed down from her parents to her children. Visiting the cemetery after the Memorial Day parade in Ashley, cutting a snippet of hair on Good Friday, or taping dimes in the window on New Years’ Eve were just a few of these traditions.
She was a remarkable baker, especially during the holidays. Her kolachi cookies were always the hit of the dessert table and never lasted long among her children and grandchildren. These wonderful desserts always followed a beautifully prepared holiday meal for her family to feast on at Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter.
Carole loved sitting by the pool or on her lanai with her husband, enjoying the ocean breeze. She loved peach ice cream from the Calabash Creamery, especially when her family visited in the summer. But most of all, Carole loved her family. Her daughters and son had the most amazing mother who supported them in everything they did in their lives. She served many roles in her children’s schools, all to support and encourage them.
Carole’s other passion in life was her grandchildren. They were the loves of her life. Whether she was in Myrtle Beach or NEPA, she was eternally on the phone either texting, talking, or FaceTiming with her grandchildren. There was seldom a day that they did not hear from Mimi. Mimi’s children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Carole’s kind spirit, passion for Notre Dame football and UConn basketball, love of reading and zest for life will live on through them These legacies are our new family tradition to pass on.
“You are gone, but thank you for all the soft, sweet things you have left behind in our homes, in our heads, and in our hearts.”
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Rowley; children, Lisa (Stan) Scott of Ashley; Jennifer (James) Jones of Mountain Top; Kristen (James) Evanoski of Wilkes-Barre Township; Thomas (Jessica) Rowley of West Chester; six grandchildren, Tyler, Abby, Hannah, Jaden, Gavin, Madalyn; sister, Mary Lynn of West Wyoming; brother, Joseph Florek, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 9:30 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Nicholas Church, S. Washington St. Wilkes-Barre at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Hanover Township.
