Belva Meckes Obituary

Belva J. Meckes, 90, of Kidder Township, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, with her family by her side.

Born in Lehigh Tannery, where she resided her entire life, Belva was the daughter of the late John and Lucy (Fulk) Gower. She was a graduate of White Haven High School and went on to work as a skilled seamstress, a profession that reflected her patience, precision, and dedication. Belva was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in White Haven. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and closest friends, especially her nieces and nephews who she loved as her own children.

Belva was well known for her crocheting expertise, especially her many intricate doilies, as well as her crafting abilities. She loved her collection of Dolls, which included her “kids” Susie and Blondie. Belva was a dedicated Philadelphia 76’ers fan; and maintained a special appreciation for hummingbirds.

Her passing was preceded by the deaths of her cherished husband, Kenneth Meckes; her parents; her brothers John, Harry, and Edgar Gower; along with her nephew, Wayne Gower, and her niece, Leslie Della Croce.

Belva is survived by her cherished nieces and nephews: Mary Gower (Wife of Wayne); Edgar Gower, Jr (Joan); Susan Gower (James Lachette); Gregory Gower (Jill); Brenda Gehringer (Robert); Richard Della Croce (Husband of Leslie); Perry Gower (James Begala); Charles Gower (Constance); and Damar Gower (Christine); along with many great- nephews and great-nieces, extended family, and friends who will deeply miss her presence.

A Celebration of Life for Belva will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, White Haven, with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery, White Haven.
