Arlene McGowan, beloved wife of the late William McGowan, Ashley, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sugar Notch, December 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jean Estok Ruddy. Arlene was a graduate of GAR High School, Class of 1950 and worked at various jobs throughout her career, the last as a floral designer. She generously donated many of her beautiful wreaths to St. Leos Festival and other charity events. Arlene enjoyed long talks with friends over coffee, trips to the casino and especially being with her loving daughters, grandchildren and great grandson.
Arlene came from very humble beginnings and worked ceaselessly her entire life to ensure the loves of her life, her three daughters; Paula, Robyn and Nancy had everything. Joining in her world, the joy of her grandchildren Jessica, Will and great grandson William.
Arlene loved life and was surrounded by too many friends to count.
Generous beyond measure, she was kind and giving to anyone who came her way, always putting herself last.
A woman of great style, she loved her home, loved decorating for holidays, baking and preparing fantastic meals for her family and anyone else who needed a meal.
A devoutly religious woman, she was of great faith and started everyday with her prayer time.
In addition to her mother, Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, William B. McGowan and son-in law Stephen Kaschenbach.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Kaschenbach of Sweet Valley; Robyn McGowan of Ashley; Nancy McGowan of Wilkes-Barre Township; granddaughter, Jessica Swingle and her husband Brian , Shickshinny; William Jayne and his wife, Holly of Wilkes-Barre Township; great grandson, “Angel Baby” William; brother, Henry Ruda; sister, Theresa Lake and nephew Barry Ruda.
Arlene's funeral service will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021, at 10:30 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church at 11:00 am. Reverend Vincent Dang will officiate.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation from 9:30 am until time of service at the funeral home, Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Cancer Research.
