Angel Luis Jirau, 68, of Wilkes-Barre, died on Wednesday, August 18 at his home.
Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Juan Luis and Maria Malave Jirau. He joined the Navy and then the Army during the Vietnam Era and became a Drug and Alcohol Counselor, while in the military. He was a community activist, served on Wilkes-Barre City Council and worked as a Drug and Alcohol counselor. Angel loved the New York Yankees, cooking, singing and enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Daisy Parrilla and his brother, Jimmy Jirau.
He is survived by his children: Christopher and Vincent Jirau; brothers, Manny (Patricia) Jirau; Alexander Jirau; Tony Jirau; sisters: Maria (Antonio) Jirau-Torres and Jacqueline Ford. He will be missed by his grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 6:00 pm from Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc., 689 Hazle Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation from 4 to 6 pm.
