MILTON MILLER, JR. Obituary

Milton E. Miller, Jr. of White Haven, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

 

Born in Wilkes-Barre, November 27, 1933, he was the son of the late Milton E. Miller Sr and Mary A. Hayes Miller and was a graduate of White Haven High School Class of 1952.  Milton loved Sports, An avid sports fan, Milton enjoyed baseball, basketball, football and golf.  He lettered for 4 years in both baseball and basketball for White Haven High School.  In 1952 he won the Scotty Roman Award for outstanding Athletic achievement in baseball and basketball and in the same year, White Haven High School won Classic Championship at Bloomsburg State Teachers College beating Butler Township and also played Baseball for White Haven A C.


In May 1952, Milton worked for Klingerman Ice Company delivering ice etc homes and businesses until Sept 1953 where he worked for Hayes Brothers Quarry, cutting Veneer stones for homes.  He later began work for Atlas Powder Co, late known as Atlas Chemical Industries and ICI Americans.  In 1986 he retired from ICI.


Milton served his country proudly, enlisting in the United States Air Force, in January of 1955, defending our country in the Strategic Air Command.  He did his basic training in Sampson Air Force Base, NY and was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and Lakenbeath, England.  He was discharged from the Air Force in December of 1958.
On November 26, 1955, Milton married Jean L. Jones and together they had a daughter Debbie on September 30, 1956.  She was born at Whitman Air Force Base and they all lived in Newark, Del for 40 years, prior to Milton and Jean moving back to White Haven in April 2003.  Milton was a master mason in 1958 and 3rd degree Mason in 1965.

In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded by his brother, Russel.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 63 years, Jean Jones Miller; daughter Debbie Howaniec and her husband, Tim of Newark, DE; grandson, Roland A. LaPointe III of Newark, DE; brother, Gary Miller and his wife, Kathy; sisters, Joyce Meier, Nancy Reilly, Patti Holmberg and her husband, Jeff, uncle and aunt, Leroy and Janet Hayes; cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 403 Berwick St. White Haven with Reverend Michelle Kaufman officiating.

 

Family and friends are invited from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
