Leroy “Butch” Carter, of White Haven, died Sunday, November 18, 2018, at home with family by his side.
Born in White Haven, he was the son of the late Clarence and Margaret Muendlein Carter and served his country in the United States Army during World War II, where he was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He was a member of the White Haven VFW and American Legion. Butch also was a catcher for the White Haven Aces baseball team and was a Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles Fan and an avid golfer. He also was the plant manager for the Bonna Vawter printing company and also worked at the Ugly Mug Restaurant prior to retiring.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Leroy, brothers, Robert, Clarence, Harold; sister Dolores and step mother, Irene Carter.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Mary A. Avilla Carter with whom he would have celebrated 68 years wonderful years of marriage this December 2nd, children, Valerie (Charles) Medwetz, White Haven; Jeff (Carolyn) Carter, White Haven; Kevin Carter, White Haven; grandchildren, Charlie, Brian, Erica, Alecia, Ashley, Rory; great grandchildren, Blake, Peyton, Nolan, Hudson and Carter; siblings, Shirley Drozic, White Haven; Lucy Minnick, Weatherly; Fred Carter, SC and several nieces and nephews.
Blessing service will be conducted on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 11:00 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 403 Berwick St. White Haven, with Reverend Michael Kloton officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will be in Laurel Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm and Saturday morning, from 10:30 am until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to charity of donors choice.
