JOHN M. CEFALY SR.

John M. Cefaly, Sr., 93, formerly of Hanover Twp and Boca Raton, FL, died Sunday, February 4, 2018, in the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa Roose Cefaly and was a graduate of St. Leo's High School, Ashley and the University of Scranton where he earned his Bachelors of Science Degree. John served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a Naval Aviator. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Meritorious Service, was a bombardier gunner on a torpedo bomber and served on the Independence and Cowpens. John was an executive for many years at Kanarr Corporation, Wilkes-Barre and ended his career as a Chief Inspector for the Department of Revenue. He was a life long member of St. Leo/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley.

John was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brother, Joseph Cefaly and sister, Angela Olzinski.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, the former Dolores A. Dougherty; children, Kathleen Doyle, Dallas; John Cefaly Jr. and his wife, Jane, NYC; James Cefaly and his wife, Deborah, Stephen City, VA; Robert Cefaly and his wife, Carol, Dallas; Christopher Cefaly and his wife, Judith, Mountain Top; six grandchildren, Erin, James, Megan, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Caroline and great grandchild, Kieran.

Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, February 9, 2018, at 11:30 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre with a Blessing service and committal prayers at 12:00 noon in St. Mary's Cemetery Chapel, South Main Street, Hanover Township with Military Honors.  Interment will follow.

Friends may visit form 11:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.

The Family extends special thanks to the staff at the Meadows Nursing and Mercy Center, and their friend Dr. Patrick Kerrigan, for the wonderful care provided.
