Peter M. Yuknavich, of the Newtown section of Hanover Township, died peacefully Sunday evening, April 1, 2018, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Joseph and Pauline Mitchell Yuknavich and was a graduate of St. Leo’s High School, Ashley, Class of 1965. Pete enjoyed repairing fishing rod reels, and he was the proprietor of Valley Reel Service in Hanover Township for many years. Peter also had a passion for cinema and had an extensive movie collection. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of St Leo’s/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by brothers, Joseph (Jay) York and Paul Yuknavich and niece, Michele York.
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Sypniewski Yuknavich, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage in May; daughter, Lynn Prebola and her husband, Thomas, Mountain Top; grandchildren, Joshua and Juliette Prebola; sister, Mary P. Allen, White Haven; Uncle, Frank Yuknavich and his wife, Mary, Wilkes-Barre Township; nieces, Kim Allen Gleed and her husband, Paul, and their children Johnathan and Gabriella, Carlisle; Melanie Venesky and her husband, Mike, and their sons, Dylan and Gavin, White Haven; and many cousins.
Blessing service will be conducted on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 11:00 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre with Reverend Vincent Dang, officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Marys’ Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may visit from 10:00 am until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Peter’s family would like to extend their thanks to the physicians and staff at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, especially to Dr. Robert Czwalina, Dr. Louise Breakstone, and the nurses on the 2nd and 6th floors, who provided such compassionate care and comfort in his final days.
