Mary Alice Rowley, 93, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at St. Luke’s Villa in Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Alice was born on June 9, 1924, the daughter of the late Alice Crossin and Henry Sullivan. She attended school at St. Leo’s in Ashley, where she not only skipped the 8th grade, but became the Valedictorian of the Class of 1941. She was also a graduate of Wyoming Seminary Business School. During World War II, she moved to Philadelphia to work for the US Government. After the war, she returned to Wilkes-Barre working for the Veteran’s Administration.
On August 21, 1948, she married Thomas and went on to focus on her proudest achievement, her family. She lovingly raised four children, as a stay-at-home mother. She returned to work for PG&W Credit Union, until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Leo’s Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the meetings with Wilkes-Barre Township Senior Citizen’s.
She enjoyed taking many family trips throughout the United States and Europe.
In 1988 she was unexpectedly preceded in death by her husband, Thomas. Also proceeding her in death was her brother Robert Sullivan.
She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Cardell and husband Anthony, son Thomas Rowley and wife Carole, daughter Kathleen Weber and husband Ron, daughter Alice Dudeck and husband Mel, and son Joseph Rowley and wife Kara. Also, her fifteen grandchildren Lisa Scott, Jennifer Jones, Kristen Evanoski, Thomas Rowley Jr, Megan Walsh, Ron Weber, Jr., Jill Dudeck, Mel Dudeck, Christopher Dudeck, Sarah Dudeck, Amanda Marconi, Samantha Mullery, Matthew Mullery, Joey Rowley and Stephen Rowley, and fifteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral service for Mary Alice will be conducted on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 9:00 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, 33 Manhattan St. Ashley. Reverend Brian Clarke will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 4, 2018, from 4 to 7 pm and on Monday morning, from 8:30 am until time of service.
Through many trying times, disappointments, and obstacles, she led her family with an unending grace and gratitude. She never faltered, laid blame, or complained. Mary Alice took strength from her unwavering faith and positive attitude.
She was the center of her family leaving both a legacy and a void that cannot be filled. Her family has peace in knowing that she is enjoying eternal life with God.
She will be deeply and forever missed by all who knew her.
